In order to ensure your child's application is processed efficiently, we ask that you follow the procedure listed below. A ".pdf" of these instructions is available above under "Admission Procedure".
• Step 1:
Call the Admissions Office at 973.783.4955 or via e-mail at: catherines@montclaircoop.org to reserve a space for an open house or to schedule a tour.
• Step 2:
If you wish to pursue admission, please complete the Application Form and return it with the $50.00 application fee to the Admissions Office. We will begin to process your child's application when we receive the fee.
• Step 3:
It is your responsibility to send the Transcript Release Form to your child's school and make sure the school forwards your child's records to us. Your child's teacher must submit the confidential Teacher Recommendation Form directly to us. Your child's application is not complete without these items.
• Step 4:
If your child is in second grade or above, please have him/her fill out the Student Questionnaire in his/her handwriting and return it with the application.
• Step 5:
As soon as your child’s application folder is complete, we will contact you to schedule a school visit for your child. Children applying for grades first through eighth spend the day with a class of their peers. Children applying for Pre-K and kindergarten classes visit the Co-op for the morning. Parents may remain in the classroom with younger applicants. Nursery and Early Ages applicants are scheduled to meet in small playgroups on Saturday mornings in January and February.
• Step 6:
On the day of their visits, candidates for grades kindergarten through eighth will be screened for skill levels in math, written language, and reading. Nursery, Early Ages, and Pre-K students are evaluated in the areas of social and language development and play interests.
Acceptances for the nursery programs are mailed in late February. Acceptances for all higher grades are determined after our re-enrollment deadline in early March, at which time we are able to evaluate what openings, if any, are available. If a class is filled, we maintain a waiting pool of candidates for any spaces that may become available. Priority is given to siblings and children of alumni during the application process, but does not guarantee admission. If MCS offers placement, a contract will be issued to the child’s family. A place in the class will be reserved for the child upon the return of the signed contract and enrollment deposit.
We welcome your questions at any point during the admissions process.
