On Friday March 3rd, Montclair Cooperative School Upper School students attended a powerful assembly at Montclair High School as part of the Climate Campaign Partnership. The Climate Campaign Partnership is an integrated STEAM program sponsored by Montclair Film Festival and partnered with the Montclair Cooperative School and National Geographic’s Years of Living Dangerously that focuses on the critical scientific, political, economic and social issues of climate change through powerful and provocative films, art, conversation, and social action. CONGRATULATIONS CO-BOTS! Montclair Cooperative School’s Robotics team - The Co-Bots - had a fantastic competition at the First Lego League qualifying tournament and will go on to represent the Montclair Society of Engineers Qualifying Tournament at the upcoming NJ State Tournament on December 10th. The Co-Bots team worked very hard before and during the competition. The team's robot (named Co-Bob) placed 5th out of 42 teams resulting in a Robot Performance award. Montclair Cooperative School is celebrating literacy with our annual Book Fair and Artisan Market. Plan to join us on Friday, November 11th from 12:30pm - 4:30pm and Saturday, November 12th from 9:00am - 4:30pm. Once again we are thrilled to be partnering with our community bookstore, Watchung Booksellers, to deliver a fun-filled event that will include the Book Fair, hand made items from local artisans, and the wonderful home cooked treats and snacks of the Bookworm Café. On Wednesday, October 5, Dawne Weaver, Director of Auxiliary Programs, and Debbie Harner, Art Teacher, at Montclair Cooperative School, received the Young Audiences Arts Champion Award from Young Audiences New Jersey & Eastern Pennsylvania, the region’s largest art education organization, providing high-quality performances and artist-in-residence programs to schools in the area. Field trips and hands-on learning are an essential part of our academic curricula and our social curriculum at all grade levels. Here’s just a sample of the experiences Co-op students have had this September to facilitate their learning. Early Ages Butterfly Study Our Early Ages classes began the school year by watching Monarch butterfly caterpillars munching away on their milkweed leaves. They watched then as the caterpillars transformed themselves into their gold-flecked cocoons and finally into Monarch butterflies. They ended the month by watching the Monarchs fly away.
