Margaret (Maggie) Granados, an experienced independent school educator and administrator, became the Montclair Cooperative School’s Head of School on July 1, 2010. Throughout her career in education, Maggie has applied her energy, optimism and knowledge about child and early adolescent development to create an environment that supports excellence in teaching and learning in the classroom and throughout the school.
Working and collaborating with our faculty, administration, membership and Board, Maggie will continue the Montclair Co-op’s progressive tradition of nurturing each child, while instilling a love of learning, exceptional social skills and a deep sense of social responsibility.
Since 2004, Maggie has been Head of the Lower School at The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. From her years there, and at the Berkeley Carroll School in Brooklyn, she brings to us a wealth of experience in all aspects of school life. Maggie is an administrator experienced in admissions, financial management, curriculum and staff development, marketing and public relations. Above all, Maggie is an educator, passionate about children and their learning. A typical day at school finds Maggie in the classrooms and hallways, in the school yard during recess and at dismissal, and meeting with parents, teachers, students and other members of the community.
In her role as one of Shipley’s key spokespersons, Maggie frequently represents the school at internal and outside community events. She maintains positive, ongoing communications with parents, alumni, students and local community groups and their leaders. At Shipley, her outreach includes writing regular, update letters to the community, leading parent workshops, facilitating monthly meetings with parents, staff and students. Her duties include working with External Relations, Marketing and Media Relations personnel and volunteers to convey positive messages about Shipley to internal audiences and market to the school to wider audiences.
Throughout her teaching and administrative career, Maggie has applied her skills to solve problems and understand the complex needs of children and their families as well as the many constituents who make up a school’s community. Maggie has successfully navigated Shipley through periods of important change and growth.
Maggie’s family includes her husband, Stefan, her son Will, and Reilly, their Wheaten Terrier. Together they enjoy walking, playing tennis and rooting for local sports teams. Maggie is an avid reader and knitter and has many additional interests.
We are delighted to welcome Maggie to the Montclair Cooperative School.
