On Monday, August 21st New Jersey will see a Partial Eclipse of the Sun!

You are all invited to the Co-op that day between 1pm and 3pm to observe the eclipse, discover some fascinating facts with science teacher Nancy, and enjoy fun eclipse activities.
  • We will begin gathering at 1:00 pm. The eclipse starts at 1:22 pm.  It  will be at its Midway point when maximum coverage is reached at 2:45 pm.
  • In case of clouds, we will be live streaming the event.
  • If the sky is clear, we will be outside observing

through our eclipse glasses and pinhole views.

Colanders (the ones with holes, not the fine mesh) are also a useful tool to reflect the eclipse so please bring one along if you would like to use it.

  • During the afternoon, children and caregivers can make their own pinhole viewers, create eclipse art, and even eat sun and moon cookies.
  • We will have eclipse glasses to be used at the event. If you have your own eclipse glasses, please  bring them along.

  • The event is for Co-op children of all ages. Because of the need for caution during the eclipse, children in Grades 5 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver.  Please email us at rsvp@montclaircoop.org if think you might attend. It will help us have enough supplies on hand.
CAUTION
WHEN LOOKING DIRECTLY AT THE SUN, ECLIPSE GLASSES MUST ALWAYS BE WORN. IT IS NEVER SAFE TO LOOK AT THE SUN WITHOUT PROTECTION AT ANY TIME WHEN ANY PART OF ITS BRIGHT DISK IS VISIBLE.
