Take the Kindness Challenge

Montclair Cooperative School, Montclair Film and Partners for Health invite you to celebrate compassion through a series of films, challenges and events that raise awareness and encourage compassion, empathy, and kindness.   Throughout the month of April, students are encouraged to perform and post acts of kindness to #MFKindnessChallenge -  and encourage others to do the same!  These can be simple acts like walking a neighbor's dog, volunteering at a food pantry, or simply writing a nice note to a friend or family member. 2019 Co-op Community Benefit

The Co-op Community Benefit is the single largest fundraising event for the Co-op! Please join us in the spirit of cooperative giving for a night of community, fun, and good food. As you know, tuition does not cover the cost of a Co-op education in its entirety. We rely on your generosity to enhance the wide range of programs we offer to our students and faculty. Co-op Collects for Victims of Walnut St. Fire

Co-op families are collecting donations of clothing for the victims of a terrible house fire that broke out on Thursday, November 15, on the corner of Walnut and Valley Roads. The home was occupied by 10 tenants, including an 8-year-old boy.  No-one was hurt but the fire consumed the entire home, and all the occupants' personal belongings were destroyed.  Containers have been set up at the school to collect donations of: Socks, underwear, t-shirts in sizes Men's L and XL,  Women's small,  and children's clothes for the 8-year-old boy. 7th and 8th Grade Experience Heifer’s Global Explorer Program 

This past summer our Co-op 7th and 8th grade students, in preparation for their Global Issues curriculum, were assigned the task of making a business plan to raise money for Heifer International, a charity dedicated to ending poverty while caring for the Earth.  Heifer International provides livestock and environmentally sound agricultural training to improve the lives of people who struggle for reliable sources of food and income in 25 countries including the US. Co-op primary students working with Artists In Education

Montclair Cooperative School's NJAIE (Artists In Education Residency Grant Program)* projects are off to a great start! Here are our third and fourth grade students are creating beautiful large puppets with visiting artist Zachary Green. They will use these puppets to perform plays written in conjunction with another visiting artist and storyteller, Eloise Bruce. Their plays will weave in information and facts they have discovered in their science curriculum. Into Space – 8th Graders conduct successful near space experiment

Congratulations to our 8th grade students who on December 6th conducted a successful near space launch and retrieval of their interdisciplinary math and science experiment using Sent into Space materials.  "This project was a true example of Co-op progressive and collaborative student-led learning," said 8th grade math teacher Meredith Kates.  "Students self selected into small group teams to envision and carry out all aspects of prepping the experiment, materials, launch and retrieval with support from teachers and parents." Thanksgiving Food Drive for St. Peter’s Haven

Congratulations to our sixth graders on their efforts this year in support of the Co-op's annual Thanksgiving food drive for St. Peter's Haven.  Thank you so much to all the families who donated. Each year when we arrive at St Peter's Haven, our 6th graders' first task is to weigh the food donations. This year we brought 598 lbs of food and 32 turkeys! St Peter's was truly grateful for our donations and for the hard work of our students, as they weighed, sorted and stacked without pause all morning.
