Alexis Charnee
Vice Chair of Advancement

Alexis serves as Trustee and Vice Chair of Advancement at Montclair Cooperative School. Her career spans nonprofit fundraising, strategic marketing, and organizational leadership, including leading development initiatives at The Jewish Museum, Carnegie Hall, and The Metropolitan Opera Guild. She has also consulted for premier cultural institutions like the Smithsonian’s art museums and the New York Academy of Art, and held operational and brand leadership roles in the private sector. Across this professional journey, her work has centered on building relationships, strengthening institutional health, and turning ambitious institutional goals into lasting results.

Alexis also brings this deep background in fundraising and community growth to school boards. As the trustee for development at The Hudson School, she was part of the leadership that brought the school’s new campus to life, focusing her energy on building a professional fundraising program from the ground up and expanding alumni relations. At Watchung Cooperative School, she looked after internal and external communications, driving work that ranged from brand development and a complete website redesign to strategic admissions materials, family communications, and member relations.

Alexis’s commitment to cooperative education is also deeply personal. Raised in cooperative and progressive schools, including Stevens Cooperative in Hoboken, where her mother served as Board Treasurer, she saw early on that a school is a community that families actively shape, sustain, and pass on. At Montclair Co-op, she champions the way equity, access, and social responsibility are woven into the school’s academic excellence and joyful, experiential approach to learning. She believes children thrive when they are truly known, encouraged to develop their individual strengths, and equipped with the confidence to learn how to learn.
